Discussion & Analysis of Business & Financial performance with future business prospects of Bank of India Ltd.

Bank of India (BOI) is one of India’s established public sector banks, with a strong presence across retail, agriculture, MSME and corporate banking. The bank has been strengthening its balance sheet and improving asset quality over the past few years. As of March 2025, total deposits stood at about ₹8.17 lakh crore, while gross advances reached ₹6.66 lakh crore, representing year-on-year growth of 10.65% and 13.74%, respectively. Global business increased 12.02% to ₹14.83 lakh crore.

The bank’s profitability has also improved significantly. Net profit increased 46% year-on-year to ₹9,219 crore in FY2024-25, while operating profit rose 17% to ₹16,412 crore. Asset quality showed a meaningful improvement, with the global Gross NPA ratio declining to 3.27% from 4.98% a year earlier and Net NPA falling to 0.82%. The capital adequacy ratio of 17.77% provides a relatively strong capital cushion to support future business expansion.

A particularly encouraging feature is the growth of retail and MSME lending. Retail credit increased nearly 20% to ₹1.34 lakh crore, while MSME credit grew 18.39% to around ₹91,000 crore by March 2025. This diversification away from excessive dependence on large corporate lending can support more stable margins and improve the quality of future loan growth.

Future Business Prospects

The long-term prospects of Bank of India appear moderately positive. India’s economic expansion, rising credit demand, infrastructure investment and increasing financialisation should provide opportunities for growth in retail, MSME, housing, vehicle and business loans. The bank’s sizeable branch network and established customer base provide an important competitive advantage.

Digital banking and technology-led services are likely to become increasingly important. BOI’s continued investment in digital platforms, mobile banking and technology can help improve customer acquisition, transaction efficiency and operating productivity. Overseas operations also provide some diversification, with overseas advances reaching about ₹1.02 lakh crore in FY2024-25.

However, the bank will need to manage deposit costs, competition from private-sector banks, interest-rate movements and credit risks carefully. Sustaining asset-quality improvements while maintaining healthy loan growth will be critical.

Overall, Bank of India has moved into a stronger position, supported by improving profitability, capital adequacy, loan growth and declining NPAs. If management continues to improve efficiency, expand retail/MSME lending and control credit costs, the bank has the potential to deliver steady business and earnings growth over the medium to long term.
