Many investors in India have Demat Accounts for sale and purchase of Shares and other Securities. Some people have more than one Demat Account in their own name or in the names of their family members. However, they are not aware about the procedure to transfer their Shares from one Demat Account to another demat account in the online mode. Transferring shares in Offline mode from one Demat Account to another Demat Account is very time consuming process. It is therefore advisable to transfer the shares from One Demat Account to Another Demat Account in online mode instantly.
Here are the steps to transfer shares from one Demat account to another through the CDSL (Central Depository Services Limited) platform:
- Log in to the CDSL Easiest portal (https://www.cdslindia.com/easiest/).
- Click on the “Easi Transfer” option from the main menu.
- Select the option “Off-market Transfer” for transferring shares between two different Demat accounts.
- Enter the target Demat account number and DP ID where you want to transfer the shares.
- Select the type of transfer as “Inter-Depository” transfer.
- Enter the details of the securities to be transferred, such as the ISIN (International Securities Identification Number), name of the security, and the number of shares.
- Verify the details and confirm the transfer request.
- You will receive a confirmation message with a reference number once the transfer request is successfully submitted.
- The target DP will then receive the request and verify the details.
- Once the transfer is completed, you will receive a notification from both the current and target DPs.
It is important to note that you need to have an active Demat account with CDSL and also link your Aadhaar card with both the current and target Demat accounts before initiating the transfer request through the CDSL Easiest platform. Additionally, there may be a nominal fee charged for the transfer by your DPs.
